It doesn't have a ribbon, but I'll take a look at how much extra fabric there is as a last resort sort of thing to restitch it.

I've never had to stretch a hat let alone one made of wool, how would I go about this?

Soak it in warm water and then pull gently around the head band to stretch it out, then if you can place it on some thing around your head size(your head) to dry.

Bingo and bingo.

My tweed fore-and-aft was a bit snug upon delivery. I just wore it a LOT and it settled into my head's shape. Fits like a charm, no need to soak...but other bonnets may require the soaking method. You can always "Jock" your caubeen similar to the way Jock Scot describes his balmoral fitting trick.
