Generally speaking buttons that have the crest within a strap and buckle are worn by liveried servants, such as butlers and footmen. Gentlemen tend to display only their crest (or in some instances their arms) on their buttons.

I think you raise a good point, Todd.

Why are blazers and therefore blazer badges, not worn with the kilt? There must be umpteen societies, associations and clubs in Scotland which, if they were down south, would wear blazers. And then if one adds in Remembrance Sunday and memorial events and funerals, there would certainly be a need. Strange.
