keep it going. I wore my Amerikilt out to Hershey Park and to an auto museum last year and received two compliments. Thousands of people saw the kilt, but I saw nobody else wearing one. Disappointing.

Saved me face a few times that day!
LOL! I did the same on my first windy day in a lightweight kilt, but it wasn't my face that I saved that day.

Well done on the first outing, Sir, you look perfectly fine - I am particularly delighted in your clothing choice: just perfect for the venue. It will not be long before every day is a kilt day, and bifurcated garmenture will be a thing of the past!

On March 15th, in UK, it was 'Red Nose Day' - a day where the whole country wears something red, does daft things, to raise money for various charities.
My work colleagues challenged me to wear 'the tartan'. (I have only ever wore my kilt at weddings or private parties before).
I accepted the challenge, and wore the full regalia - PC, Ghillies and my Royal Stewart Kilt and Fly Plaid etc. It was my first time to go public. After work, we all went for a beer at a local pub - me - still kilted.
I was shocked at the response - even here in UK!!
EVERYONE wanted to be photographed with me, everyone wanted to know about kilts, all I got was compliments!
I got no worries about going public again!
Well done to you on your first outing!

Good for you A. Robertson, good for you. As a "newish" kiltie, I know that anxiety of a first wearing, and it seems to me like your experience is a pretty universal response to a man in a kilt, even here in Oklahoma USA.

I became a first time kilt wearer about two weeks ago. I remember the excitement of opening the packaging after it had been delivered and the fun of trying it on for the first time in front of the mirror. After trying on several t-shirts and taking some pictures, I eventually ventured outside to the local supermarket. I was a bit nervous at first, but once I passed a few local shop keepers I'm friendly with and having their reaction be nothing but positive, I grew in confidence (although a gust of wind that almost blew the kilt up at the back did make me panic for a split second! lol).

The first "real" time in public was when I was DJing at a club on a friday night. Everybody loved it; some guys thought I'd lost a bet, but a lot of girls were asking the "are you wearing anything underneath" question (I wasn't incidentally).

Since then, I've worn it out about half a dozen times and loved every minute of it. Already ordered my second kilt, which is arriving on Tuesday, and have my eye on a third as well as decided which tartan to use when I have a traditional one made.

Soooooo addictive and so much fun!

Love the ensemble - looks great

It is addictive, and expensive - even the PV kilts are £50 a pop though EBay is your friend - I've found many a bargain from the auctions - though sometimes bidding can get a little wild - have a very interesting denim kilt from Poland, and a Dress Stewart (white) -

and a more controversial Pinstripe Kilt Suit. Pinstripe divides some here on the forum, the Mrs prefers regular tartan, though initially she hated all kilts. I wear my sporran with mine or it can look a little like a ladies business suit

I've walked a section of Lordship Lane in mine - passing passengers on the 243 bus found it amusing - though I've not had any adverse comments - just quizzical looks. I've found the key is confidence - carry on as you would in jeans. Google 'Benny D' - another kilted DJ ( http://www.djbennydfansite.com/photo...-at-la-marina/ ) he's Akon's DJ. Some of his kilts are a little long though
