I have tried it, and it is almost as good as the stuff I make myself, which is pretty wicked. I have only ever seen one sort - I think it was labelled 'Original ginger beer', and at least it was alcoholic. Usually the ginger beer here is just the flavour. One thing - don't drink it with curry. Not unless you like the feeling of flames emerging from your nostrils and steam coming out of your ears. I have not come across Crabbies ginger beer, but I do know Crabbies ginger wine, which when mixed with a blended scotch makes a smashing "winter warmer".

Portree booted in the door, he sauntered tae the bar
He poured a shot o Crabbies, he shouted "Slangevar!"
While Midnight was being chatted up by a barroom girl called Pam
Who said "Well howdy strangerrrrr, would you buy us a Babycham?"

There is no specific ratio that I am aware of, as it is a matter of taste, but about one third Crabbies and two thirds whisky would be a place to start and work your way towards a half and half mixture, I should think. We call the drink a Whisky Macdonald(after Colonel MacDonald who is reputed to have invented it), or perhaps more commonly known as, a Whisky Mac..
Oh and, no ice and no water.

I have a red-haired friend a bit too fond of moaning who I nicknamed Mr Crabbies. (He is a ginger whine)
