    New Doublet

These photos aren't great, the lighting is poor in my house and these were taken by cell phone cam. Still it shows my new single breasted velvet doublet. I am wearing it with the highland cravat and the lace jabot. I also unbuttoned the collar and laid the collar down and it formed kenmore doublet like lapels. Looked good with a black bowtie. Got the inspiration for this doublet from a portrait of the last MacLeod of MacLeod. Hopefully I'll get some better photos soon!

Very nice indeed! Did you do the tailoring?

The only thing that might be a bit amiss is that usually when you see a jabot the jacket's collar is notched so the jabot doesn't 'waterfall' over the top (like in image 2), but rests between the edges. You might want to try wearing the jabot with the top button unbuttoned as in image 1.

Smashing! I'd go with cut steel buttons on the velvet doublet...

Good call on the Jabot. It was my maiden Jabot voyage and I put it on in a hurry. It's an antique single ply jabot so it looks a little different than the ones I see online. There actually is a notch. Is this more like it?

I'm happy with these until the right set comes along at the right price.

Here it is with the lapels folded down. Sorry the photo isn't clearer (and I know my shirt studs aren't lined up in one of the pics ;)

Very nice, Nathan. Personally I like the cravat best, as it is just a little different than the usual, but still very dapper. The bow tie also looks nice and I'm surprised at how versatile the collar on that doublet is, in that it seems to be designed to be worn up or down.

On the one hand, I think jabots are awesome! On the other, I would be hard pressed to find an event in these parts where one wouldn't seem over the top...

I understand that some people wear them to the St. Andrew's Ball here. Ever been?

Unfortunately, I have not been to the local St. Andrew's Ball, though pictures bear out your understanding. I believe the dress code for that event is black tie... while a jabot is probably acceptable, it seems a bit much to me. I tend to see the jabot as best -- though not exclusively -- worn with full formal attire aka white tie.

Others will disagree and I know we have at least one local Xmarker who prefers a Montrose doublet and jabot for black tie. I will leave it to people more knowledgeable than I as to the finer details to be parsed in interpreting that issue

I am glad I have the other look options with the cravat or bow tie because honestly, I can do without the Austin Powers quotes I might run into in many settings. nice to have the option though.
