I'll post some more pics of the build. I have had the goathair for a few years (bought from a farm in northwest) I got the brass bar (for the hinges) and 1/16" brass plate (for the back plate from McMaster-Carr. The rolled brass is actually a cut down lamp base from Grand Brass and the finials were also bought there. the leather is from Tandy and hardware Home Depot. Cost is hard to determine because I bought a length of bar and plate and only used a fraction. I may make a few more cantles with different designs cut into them so the extra material will come in handy. Everything was done in the cellar with common tools except I have leatherworking tools. The thing with these projects is to be resourceful. I just searched till I found things that might work.

Very nice, I really like your idea of cutting down a lamp base. I think I will give it a try.
