3rd Balmoral
Okay, don't look for my 2nd because you won't find it here. I have enjoyed making these so much I blew right past number 2 right into my third one, which was finally the one I made for myself!

The good thing about waiting to do my own was that by the third time, I had it figured out pretty well and made a lot fewer mistakes. Making the cockade was quite challenging. Pinning everything down and trying to get it all symmetrical was about all I could handle. One thing I have noticed is that the top almost always turns out a bit larger than I would care for. Maybe it has to do with how I form it to my head, but we have started making the head band in the size then the top a size down from the one on the pattern (medium head band with a small top).

I have enjoyed knitting so much! I have started making a pair of garter ties which I DO NOT recommend to anyone for a first project because it is so utterly boring!

I love the muted color scheme! I've been planning something similar for the dicing of my next one and it's nice to get a preview.

Nice one - very jaunty.
If you want to avoid getting bored doing garter ties, buy a Brother knitting machine and garter carriage, cast on the yarn, set the garter carriage for however many rows you want knitted, wander off and return some time later to cast off the tie.
You just need to move the levers into the cast on and cast off positions, not actually do any knitting.

Excellent work, i am going to try some dicing on my next Balmoral. As for garter ties. I like using the little Embellishment Tool, a small hand crank knitting loom similar to a spool knitter. This will quickly create an I-cord like length of yarn. I then put tassels on the ends. There is a little stretch in the cord, but is great for keeping hose up.
