My first 3 attempts at kiltmaking

Below are my first 3 attempts at kilt making. I used a tartan flannel on my kids traditional-style kilts My daughter's skirt has contrasting top-stitching on the pleats and hems. On my son's I used a clear thread and it seemed to work really well.

I had a really old version of the X-Kilt pattern and started one for me to wear with my scouting uniform. I sewed all the pleats and got stuck on the large pleat and over apron. Found the newer pattern here and saw a kilt from one of the other posters that cleared up my confusion.

Looks good Tad. I like the idea that your involving your children and (hopefully) creating a family tradition that they will carry on.
What material did you use on your Scouting kilt?

Looks like you are well on your way. I need to pull out the kilt I started, I set it aside when I changed jobs and lost about 2 hours a day to traffic.
Seeing that you are part of the Scout community and assuming you are part of the troop that meets at Victory Baptist, you have been right next door to me. My home is across the stream behind the church.

It was a medium weight twill... Hangs nice, but we'll see how it holds up at our campout coming up.

Next year... My son is still in Cub Scouts at the Elementary School, but he'll be moving up. the high school cheerleaders put on a Donkey basketball fundraiser at the high school and i wore my Black Stewart hiking kilt from SportKilt. I rode for the elementary school and all my teammates did makeup a la Braveheart...
