    King Robert I

For those interested in Scottish history, today is the 707th anniversary of the crowning of Robert the Bruce as King Robert I.

Long live the memory of King Robert I, a truly inspirational leader, not just then, but today as well.

I'm just finishing the book "The Bruce Trilogy" by Nigel Tranter. It's basically a history lesson that has been fleshed out and humanized or indeed, a historical novel; whatever! It's been a great read (over 1,000 pages) and given me a sense that I understand Bruce and what was going on inside his head.

I have that trilogy also, it is most excellent. I've enjoyed many of his books. His idea's on The Stone of Scone are pretty interesting aswell.

I have never read any of the late Mr Tranter's work but I did see him on a few documentaries before his passing. He was a brilliant scholar.
I wouod love to read his books.

Here’s another Tranter fan. I read his Robert the Bruce books and the one about the Stone of Scone many years back, but just recently I read a contemporary (contemporary in 1946, that is)one set in the vicinity of Kingussie.

I am reading "The Temple And The Stone" by Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris. Although it is a work of fiction it does involve the crowning of Robert Bruce.
