Thanks chaps you've pretty much confirmed what I suspected. I like the hat, I like my kilts but not necessarily together, although maybe, as many of you said, it's the t-shirt/cammo kilt combo.
Graham yours certainly suits you and looks like it 'belongs', maybe when Bear's kilt arrives or with my black kilt and a polo shirt.
I will stick with it as Grahams proved it can be done.
Hamish if it had arrived before the weekend you could have seen it in the flesh, no doubt just before I'd be laughed off Hyde Park. I'm sure it would have caused great merriment among the lads.
I took the picture with what I'd been wearing through the day, so I should have taken more care really.
I've just thought it means I need a new kilt
Oh and one last thought Hamish, as you know, Sarah got the cowboy boots she'd been looking for, and had a great time shopping.
So how do you stop a rhino charging. Max out his credit cards :x

Graham, you have certainly proven with your pic that a big ol' hat can look great with a kilt. It works very well with the button down shirt... I think it also helps that the hat is of a lighter color and doesn't appear to be straight from the shop. Nice blending.
That is a great look for you!

Hello All!
Rhino, the hat does look good on you! I agree with the gang here as there is something not working with the combination. Having worn hats of various kinds for a good many years I know it takes some time for them to develop "charecter" and become an old friend.
Don't give up on wearing the hat with your kilts, play with some clothing combinations and you'll find one that the hat fits with meantime wear your hat and kilt with pride and strut some!
Graham you look so darn comfortable! Your picture makes me cringe at the thought of climbing into my dress clothes for work today. Ah well if it wasn't for the bad things in life how would we ever learn to appreciate the good ones. BTW the hat looks great!
May all your blessings be the ones you want and your friends many and true.

Glad the photo helped Rhino, the Akubra certainly has a place for those who like a hat (like me).
Akubra is a brand name of one Australia's most successful hats, but there are other hats of the same style that cost less.
All my hats are made in Tasmania by Grizzly hatters. The export to Canada also, it is their biggest market.
If you contact their agent in Vancouver:
Ashley, Southern Cross Sheepskins 604 3238844 he will tell you the nearest outlet and you can pick your own.
Now they sell here for $39 AUD, so they would be about $64 Canadian.
Akubra's are twice that price. Just a thought.
Sorry, forgot you are in the UK! still, might be useful..
btw, is that a piccie of you Rhino, in the pinstripe kilt suit?
I thought it was a professional modeling shot, you look great in it!

Graham thanks for the info, I got the hat off ebay for £10, and yes I borrowed the brown kilt suit for a day earlier this year and I think Howie has it up for sale. I might be wrong and it might have been a special offer to Hamish but if anyone wants it I can get in touch with him and ask.

If I may say so, without causing any dissappointment, I think the opinion here is that an Akubra does not go too well with a camo, and perhaps (IMHO) better with either tartan or maybe Utilikilt/Victory kilt.
I think the bottom line tho' is if YOU like it - wear it!.
I live in a part of the world where we are told there's a big hole in the ozone layer, so hats are pretty important here.

No worries Graham, I need the technical advice you lot can give. I've got a plain black kilt which I'm pretty sure will look ok with it, but the kilts wool and I'm frying now so it'll have to wait till winter. Hopefully my Bear kilt will soon be here and that should be cool enough to give the hat another go, although I find the hat hot as well
Thanks for all the opinions

So YOU'RE the one that's holding-up my BearKilt order!!!
Hey Rhino, I like the hat! Look at it this way... how many guys are going to get mistaken for you in that thing?
It's like one of the guys in the band. He wears everything Scottish traditional from the kilt, sporran, flashes and belt... until you get down to his Converse Chuck Taylor shoes.

Rhino,
Being a hat man, myself, I must say that I like the hat and I like it with your kilt.
My personal style is an eight panel or a beret.
I have been reading a lot about Scottish dress and it appears that the early dress was wide open. Go for it! Express your personal tastes.
