How often do you wear a kilt pin?

A recent thread got me thinking...I seldom...rarely, really, wear a kilt pin. What about the rest of the rabble?

Always. I actually never think about it, the pin is in the kilt so its always there. I know some get terribly worried over ripping the cloth and its true it could happen, but in 70 odd years of kilt wearing and having been in amongst many regular kilt wearers I have never come across any one who has torn their kilt thus. Land Rover doors certainly, barbed wire most certainly, brambles oh yes and even irate wives(ex wives) have wrought terrible damage to the kilt, but in my experience not kilt pins.

As well as always. quite often two and always in the area of mid thigh.

I very rarely remove a pin from a kilt. Once its on it generally stays on.

I always wear a kilt pin when kilted. It would definitely seem "incomplete" otherwise. When I bought my kilt, I thought the pin was an essential part of the outfit. Though, having read various postings on X-marks, I now realise that one should probably not talk about "musts" in the context of kilt-wearing!

I always wear one and in 50 years of kilting never thought about not using one until I saw on this forum that some don't use them. I leave one on each kilt that I feel is appropriate to its wear. They rarely ever get changed. My best tank has a nice old antique one with stones inset. My everyday kilts have the old style blanket pin that I grew up with. These are available at our local horse and feed store for $2.00 each.

I have tried the look without but its not for me.

I would feel self conscious without one and always wear one. I do take it out to go through the airport security but try to find the old holes to replace it later.

I'm in the always camp. Once I put a pin on a kilt, I rarely if ever take it off. And I advise my clients the same. There is really no need to remove it, and if you take it off and put it on each time you wear the kilt, it only adds to the wear and tear.

I will occasionally swap out a kilt pin for a different one, for special occasions. For example, I have a lovely nineteenth century kilt pin that looks like a miniature dress dirk. It's an antique, and fragile, so I don't wear it except for special occasions.

Always - I can't think of an occasion when I would not.
