How often do you wear a kilt pin?

I'm with Spartan Tartan. Never have, never will and don't feel any the less for not doing so. Similarly, I don't wear a sgian dubh and prefer my trusty Opinel penknife.

I too am in the Never group. Nor do I wear rings, bracelets, neck chains etc. Certainly not any judgment of those who do, it just isn't to my personal style.

I too am one of the "always" crowd, mostly because I'm lazy. I put a kilt pin on each of my kilts when I first got them and just never bothered to take them off!!!

A kilt pin is one of those things I put on when Im getting more dressed up. Another reason I dont wear it very much is because Im deathly afraid itll snag on something & damage my kilt.

I always wear one if I'm wearing a traditional-looking kilt (including USA Casual)... the only time I don't is if I'm wearing my Utilikilt or Elkommando (the only 2 non-traditional kilts).

To me, it's just part of what you wear... like a belt to my pants (when I can't wear kilts). They're well fitted pants, and I don't need the belt to hold it up. However, my (pants) outfit never looks complete without a belt. Same with kilt pin with traditional kilts.

For my traditional kilts: I wear one when I think about it. When piping with the band, it's part of our uniform, so that's an always situation. I wear one at the games as well. If I'm headed to the pub, I may or may not wear a kilt pin; it depends on my mood I suppose. When lounging around the house or yard, I generally forgo the pin (but not always).

I never wear one with my Utilikilt, as I generally only wear the UK when doing yard or house work. It's a workman UK, and I don't consider it a fashion item. Thus: no unnecessary embellishments.

I'm in the "always" camp. I'm thinking about following Chas' lead and converting my kilt pins to magnetic back. I have a couple brass name plates for my uniform shirts that are magnetic making it easier to switch them from shirt to shirt.

Right now I have two clan kilt pins (although I'm still in the final few weeks of Jonesing for my MacFarlane kilt), so I'm in the camp that keeps pins with kilts. My band kilt happens to be in my wife's tartan (MacLean of Duart), so I "borrowed" the pin from her. As the addiction grows, I figure finding the right pin will just be part of getting a new kilt.

And yes, I "have my list out"-- another family kilt (so a clan crest pin for that), an X Kilt project this summer (which will inevitably become my "Grateful Dead" kilt so its likely to be a "stealie" pin), and eventually a couple of regional tartans with family significance (Maple Leaf and Pennsylvania....wish one of the major mills made the Michigan tartan, its a beauty). I like the idea of making pins with found objects, so I might try my hand at something like that for the regional kilts.

I have gotten to become an "always" kilt pin wearer. My kilt pins are home made, except for one stag horn pin, and each has a uniqueness about it. Like many here most of mine stay on certain kilts for the look I want, others get moved around at times. For a while I wasnt wearing kilt pins on the kilts I walked to work in, a 5 yard wool Black Watch and 8 yard PV Black Stewart, but that has changed as Ive made a few more pins from various items I had. I can go out of the house without flashes or garter ties in my kilt hose but my kilt need the pin to look proper.
