"Plaid" socks, Knitting kit available
The American yarn e-store, Knitpicks.com, has two kits available for under $20 each to make "plaid" socks. Kit = yarn + pattern. If you add some extra yarn to your order, and knit the legs longer, the socks would make some showy kilt hose.
Kits are available in blue tones or a black-and-gray mix.
I have ordered from this company many times. Their products are first-rate.

Thanks for that. I have passed this to my mother (the knitter). Unfortunately they do not ship to the UK, but they do ship to the USAF bases in the UK. We have some American military friends, so by a roundabout route the kit will arrive.

The big challenge may be shaping the calf. From photos, the pattern doesn't appear to include any provision for this. But it's a lovely look and I can also attest to Knitpick quality. Thanks for giving me another project to think about!

Thanks very much for this. I've already contacted my wife and mother about labor
As well, I've selected colors to compliment my Buchanan-Modern and saved the link in "My Favorites".
Thanks again.

Very interesting. Thanks for the heads-up. I order from them all the time for my yarns and needles. Great company. I had not seen that kit.

I wish I had the skill necessary to work on these! They would certainly be an interesting pair of kilt hose.

Just cracked my own copy of the catalog and see that you can download the pattern only for $1.99.

I usually try to withhold negative comments, but I just don't like the look of these socks, and I think kilt hose would be "too much".

Mind you, this is from the member who made falling leaves hose
I certainly admire the work involved. Just saying that "too much" is very much in the eye of. . .

You got me there, Sydnie. I've been told that opinions are like something else that everybody has I'd like to see the hose that somebody makes with this pattern, but it ain't gonna be me.
