Phil's responses and the discussion it's leading to is EXACTLY the kind of thing the moderators need to put the kibosh on, if we want this to work. Why is this being allowed to stand, when the brand-new rules are so clearly spelled out against it?

Without the ability to report a post, perhaps the mods are reluctant to address it? Perhaps they believe it would be perceived as "big brother" imposing "his" bias? Not sure, Tobus, but it's a great question.

I still have the possibility to "flag a post". Perhaps you too can flag one, if you so desire.

I guess I do too... Interesting. I thought that feature was disabled during the trial period (first 6 months)?

From finding little of interest here lately I now see a positive reason for shunning it altogether. I do hope that this will not prove to be the case given the generally sound values most members have shown in the past but we shall just have to wait and see.
Phil, thanks for the best laugh I've had in days.

You almost had me going for a moment there.

As Steve described it, the mods would be watching this forum closely, in order to keep it on the 'straight and narrow', as it were.

So far, that isn't happening. If this is the way it's going to be, then it's destined for failure.

Weeellll, that's not entirely accurate. The mods are indeed watching, but the question is really, what should the appropriate action or response be?

The mods do try to be as reasonable as possible, and not too close to the "nuke" button, because we too are, after all, members of the rabble. So my question then, as one rabble member to another...(And I don't necessarily point this question only at you), but if you were in a moderator's shoes, what do think would be the most appropriate course of action to take with this particular thread, and why?

I don't mean this to come across as, "If you think it's so easy, then YOU try it..." Not at all! If this experiment is to work, it would be helpful to get some feedback on how a moderator (any moderator) might act on a perceived rule violation.

Difficulty level: No "flag post" button.

I think the mods are doing fine- New subforum, newly edited rule, everyone feeling out the waters.

What I don't get is why people would come to a subforum to complain about it. That makes as much sense as going to "Celtic Music" to whine about how you dislike the pipes, or "The Pub" to talk about your hatred of Whisky...

I think that historic weaponry is fascinating, and look forward to what develops here.

Perhaps we should take it upon ourselves to quote the rules as has been done elsewhere within the forums? For example,

    Rule #11 (amended 4 April, 2013)
(for the purpose of this forum, "Weapon" is defined as anything that is designed for, or is used to, injure.)
    - The laws governing, and/or the views surrounding, the topics: 1) The 'right to bear arms', 2) The ownership, possession, carry and use of weapons, 3) Hunting, and 4) Self-defense, are specific to each country or region. Any discussion of these topics will be closed or deleted.

    Bold added by me.

It is clear that some have taken to violate this very point by specifically advocating their "views surounding...the ownership" of weapons. And so therefore should be "closed or deleted".

I'd recommend deletion of such inflamatory posts, as they appear to be specifically intended to sidetrack this thread, have nothing to do with the OP and are in clear violation of Rule #11.

    How's that?

This thread is more of a commentary of the revised Rule 11 than how to accessorize your kilt with a weapon.

I am moving the thread to the forum Comments and Suggestions with a re-title noting the Discussion on Rule 11 changes.

I am flagging the thread as notification to the moderators to review my action.
