Only a few years ago I thought that the scrap heap was the only place for me and just the very thought of that almost hastened my journey there. However, with close support of my friends------many from this website------and my dear family and TIME, things oh so slowly got better and better. Make no mistake it was a very rocky road, for all concerned, and OK I have had to accept that I cannot do certain things, but I can do more, much more, than it was thought I could do. Keep going, be patient and you might be surprised what you can do! I hope this helps a wee tad.

It helps more than a wee tad Jock, thank you for the good words. I hurt myself due to one moment's inattention while using fairly heavy weight. I intend to be very careful getting back, but I fully intend to get back, and possibly a little further. We may be altecackers, but we aren't done yet. I am glad you're here, I have always listened to your opinions and advice. Not always followed them, mind you, but your words are always wise and gentlemanly.

Status update;
So there I was, all excited. The bicep tear was healed! Starting to work out again that night. Going to the store on the way home, coming out of the building, the door is opened by the person ahead of me. I reach out to catch it as it closes. A gust of wind bangs the door into my outstretched hand. Ouch! That smarts. Seems Ok tho. I work out that evening. In the morning - Yikes! Swollen, immobile wrist. Broken bone at the base of my thumb.
So I've been seven weeks with my right forearm, wrist and hand totally immobilized by a cast. The break is now healed, which was in some doubt. the bone in question only gets blood from one side, so sometimes the side past the break dies, from lack of blood. Thank the Good Lord, not in this case. Cast came off Monday, and the bone is healed. That's the good news. The bad news - after seven weeks of no motion, the muscles and tendons of my right hand and arm (and I am right handed) are so stiff and atrophied, I can't fully make a fist or completely spread my fingers. My trainer estimates that, if I work hard, I will be able to pick up a 20lb dumbbell and do a curl by around June. Obviously, my participation in the Games for 2013 will be as a member of the S.A.M.S. color guard. See you on the field in 2014!

My father once told me there is nothing you did at 20 that you can't do at 60. It just takes longer, hurts in places you forgot you had places in the morning, and you ask yourself, "What the hell was I thinking."

Well, that sucks. You've been patient, and now this....though there are worse things to do than that SAMS color guard!

Update: WooWoo! Worked out last night, and was able to pick up and stabilize the unweighted bar, so I could do squats
dead lifts and so forth. Last week I couldn't grip it safely. Now to work on getting my strength back.

Onwards and upwards then.
On Monday I was digging in the garden making a shingle bed, and expected that the moving of heavy buckets would give me grief, but no, it was when returning the spade to the building that I caught my toe under the doorsill - the nail is now black and the toe still rather tender. The shingle bed is left half done, but maybe next week I will get it finished, just after my 62nd birthday.
As for the expected aches and pains - not a one.
We go on improving.
