I recommend, in no particular order, the Glenmore hose from Comfy Kilt Hose at

    http://comfykilthose.com/index.html

or from the Scottish Tartans Museum at

    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/glenmore.html

as in Mael's post, or USA Kilts hose at

    http://www.usakilts.com/kilt-accesso...s-flashes.html

    Happy hunting.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I had no idea so many folks like the Glenmore hose. There are certainly a lot more posts about the Lewis Hose but I really like my Glenmore hose for typical California weather.

So, if you're lookijng for "everyday wear" hose, you'd be wise to get better quality stuff like the house of cheviot ones mentioned, with a reinforced foot. They're more expensive but will last longer.

For "special occasions" do you mean black tie or white tie? If so, you'll want diced or argyll hose. Those are considerably more expensive and usually require sending measurements to the hose maker.

I started off wearing thin, cheap kilt hose. But over time, grew to appreciate high quality. I don't mind paying $75 or more for a good pair of kilt hose, and it's "affordable" to me. But obviously, that same standard of affordability won't be the same for everyone else. So perhaps setting the goal posts for this discussion would help with recommendations?

Well put, Tobus and regarding hose, I'm the same way.

I always reccomend the best you can afford. If you are going casual, then just go to the sporting goods store and get some hiking socks or long athletic socks. No point special ordering something like that.

However, if you are wanting actual kilt hose to wear then I would suggest something of quality. They will fit better and last longer. Personally, I am a fan of Lewis hose. Casually, i just wear hiking socks.

I second Sock Dreams. I just paid $8 a pair for very nice hose/socks at their retail store in Portland and am VERY happy with them. Sure beats the price of kilt hose I always see offered.

Fair enough. For the record, I was making a joke about a media figure's bombastic style and saying nothing about his or anyone's politics. Didn't think I was in danger of crossing the political line by making fun of a TV personality but I guess since he covers political topics, it's reasonable to be construed this way. I was just looking for a way to slip the play on words in anyway. Judging by the reaction, my gut for where the line is was off a little, so I took an abrupt turn back to the OP's question. Cheers

I have a pair of cotton hose: http://www.scottishtradingcompany.co...roducts_id=810 and I love them. They're nice for hot days because I don't have to wear something underneath-- I need to with wool hose because I can't stand wool against my bare skin (which is how I can't imagine some of you can stand to go regimental!). However, the color selection is limited.

Nathan , your pun is understood . However , he is not just a media figure or a TV personality but rather a " political " media figure . Some like him , some don't .

Either way , the point is , when you bring up someone's name from the " political " arena and then call them names such as windbag or bombastic , it creates for an unpleasant and unnecessary situation here on XMarks . Political views / opinions are not discussed here .

It's understood that you meant it as humor , however , you brought up a " political " media figure and expressed an opinion about him . There's no law against that , it's just not allowed on this forum . Those type of comments whether they are pro or con about someone can lead to heated political discussions . That's why anything political is not allowed on XMarks and that's also why XMarks has been so successfull .
