Trust your kiltmaker, or their trained agents. I just received my first kilt, it fit perfectly. The folks who measured me put down 24" as the length, which I questioned because my own measurements came up with about 26". I'm 6'-2". They assured me it would be right, and it was. Do not try to measure yourself...find someone who won't laugh to help, LOL!!!

When I ask someone to send me measurements, I email them very specific measuring instructions, and I suggest that they ask a friend, rather than going to a tailor. I've found that tailors will typically not use my measuring instructions because they are used to measuring for other garments and will just do their own measurements regardless of the instructions I have provided. Friends do a dandy job, and they are usually very anxious to get it right. I also commonly do a Skype video call if someone is uncertain about whether they are doing the measurements correctly.
