I really am sorry that this sort of thing happens. Whether or not I could have stayed as calm and collected as you, I do not know. I am sure that having a couple of mates with you helped the situation, but it is unfortunate that it happened. I applaud you for the way you handled it, and knowing that the guy was a total jerk after the event may have made you feel better for your actions.

We can speculate all we want about his intentions, but your story tells me that you are very confident, not only in your kilt wearing but your life in general, so Graham, you have my kudos.

    Wow that must have sucked.
I have had no negitive stuff happen yet to me.
I am sure it will eventualy but, I am afraid i will not have the compusure you did. I am not a very calm person and I have never been one to steer clear of a fight. I hope that this kind of crap slows down as more and more people wear kilts.

    sorry to hear it

Most if not all of us have had some sort of negative remarks or gestures from some of these insecure a$$#@%%S but have been lucky that it didn't get physical. The bad thing is that even if you were to kick his a$$ you would be the one in court/jail or you could get hurt worse as most of these idiots only start somthing when they think they have the advantage.I think you handled yourself well, you didn't stir things up and backed off.I find the best thing to do is get out if it before it gets bad, someone like this isn't worth getting hurt or killed for or going to jail for.Worse case situation( if its physical) hit em hard and dirty and get the hell out. On the plus side, if he keeps this up he will be in prison trying to save his backside from a lifer named bubba.I also think the others are right he was looking for a fight and you happened to be a handy target.I sometimes hear sh@t from people and i'm 5'11" 260 LBS and tattooed ,but they only talk when they feel they have me at the disadvantage or figure they can outrun me so I can't catch em.

Nicely done, ggibby. Movies/TV really glorify kicking the bad guy's ***, but the reality is that if you had, there might have been legal aftereffects, and if not, the pr!ck would have recruited some friends and would have been waiting for you in the future at the same place, looking for a beatdown. And of course, you wouldn't be able to enjoy going to the same place anymore, since you'd be looking over your shoulder all the time. Funny, TV/movies never seem to cover that aspect.

Silver lining to the dark side

    Well, thanks, guys!

Miah is right: it sucked. And I'm resigned that it might happen again, since I'm gonna be kilted, and there's a idiot waiting in every bar. And probably disguised.

I was really surprised since Mark, the homophobe, had bought a round for Kelly & me a week prior.

The crowd certainly was kilt-positive, but more importantly, they had little patience for his behaviour. If I do return to Saranac Lake and see him, I really don't know what I'll do. I doubt he remembered his actions the next day. Bringing it up won't accomplish anything.

And as for fighting, what little I know is from my father. He told me make sure you're justified and ready for the consequences, then 'win and git', whatever it takes. But he learned to fight in UDT-R 29, where situations were very different.

Kilt #6 should arrive sometime this week (right, Rocky?), and it might get it's debut in a backwoods East Texas bar. And I'll have plenty of friends backing me up.

And when I get home and visit my local cafe, the ladies will once again all stop by my table 'just to check.'

Just had to yank your chain a little on that one. Mostly I wear kilts I make myself. My everyday ones are cotton that resemble a Black Watch tartan. I'm working on one in a MacKinlay at present to match an outfit I'm making for my wife. A pic of that is in my gallery.

Really, I guess you can expect that sorta thing in bars, not that I'm saying you shouldn't go there, but that's where drunks hang out.

Well done Graham for handling it well. Remind me not to grab Bubba tho'.
