Help from Shaw's in Texas
Hello,
I am looking for some help from Shaw's in Texas. I am desperately trying to find out more about my grandfathers family that was in East Texas, the Shaw's. They lived around Kaufman at the turn of the century and stayed until about the mid 40's. We only have my great grandparents names and the childeren's names and all the birth and death dates.
Any help will be great, ancestry.com is no help and I do not know where to turn next.
Thanks a Million!
LOCH SLOY!
Cheers, Wil

Well, I've had a few friends use this site:
http://www.cemeteries-of-tx.com/
Which has listings from cenetaries of most counties of Texas (including Kaufman). Plus links to other Texas listings and research sites.

You may try to contact the Central Texas Area Museum in Salado. http://saladoscottishgames.com/centr...s-area-museum/
The museum helps sponsor the Salado Scottish Clan Gathering and Highland Games and holds genealogy classes during the event. Maybe someone can help you.

Ok great I will give this site a once over. I know where they are buried (Wislon Chapel in Kaufman). There are numerous Shaw's there and I once spoke with someone from Clan Shaw who was in Scotland and he said that he had been there to the graveyard to visit a grandfather. Who was close to mine! He said that everyone in relatied that is there. I trashed his email and haven't been able to find him since ( I think I just got lucky with that email). But I do have a hand written letter out to them that I just droped in the post this morning, for some reason the clan genealogist doesn't use a computer...... Thanks for the heads up and the website.

Will, Shaws are not the most common folk to track down in the US. Believe me, I know. My dad's Mum was a Shaw (born in Kentucky). These mountain folk often left no birth or death records in some places.
I know that you are in Texas but truthfully in America the early lines sometimes dead-end. It's kind of funny how our ancestors often thought that they were giving their progeny a better life...but then were forgotten and disappeared from our recollection within a few generations. Sometimes they didn't want to be found, especially in places like, for example, Texas or Arizona during their early history. The freedom and anonymity is what drew folks to many of these far-flung and out-ofthe-way places...not the weather.

Best of luck with your search.

My last name is Shaw and our family has been traced from Ohio back to Pennsylvania and before that New Jersey. Don't have any connection to Texas that I know of though.

Wil, one of our members is Shaw of Easter Lair. He lives in Issaquah, Washington, but has many contacts all over the US. You might send him a PM. Who knows?
