At the risk of being ostracised I have to ask, "What on earth are "Daisy Dukes"? I've never heard of them.

In spite of what Rhino says about Gays and kilts in the British Midlands, I was at Brighton Pride (that's on England's South Coast) on Saturday, as I have been for the past four years. I have never seen as many kilts (traditional and contemporary) and Utilikilts as were in evidence this year. Last year, for example, I doubt I saw more than six or eight tartan kilts, and no others (apart from my own white Utilikilt). On Saturday, amongst the record crowds of over 30,000, I counted more than 20 tartan kilts, several plain black or camouflage kilts and about six Utilikilts. I wonder if this had anything to do with all the cards I handed out at last year's event!!!

I appreciate that you are all clamouring to see a photo of the kilt I was wearing this year, but I have not 'processed' the pix yet. Hopefully within 24 hours, Gentlemen. What was I wearing? Oh, just a new 'Rainbow' kilt that I received on Friday......

Oh, no, Graham. Panic not. It was not THAT kilt (but another one for sure!)

I'll probably never wear it again - after all, I am not a 'Campaigning' sort of chap, well, not the sort to go parading with banners, or dressed in outrageous costumes, etc. However, Saturday was a fun day - a Mardi Gras sort of day - and a bit of colour seemed appropriate. Actually, I received many compliments ........ strangely for such an event, all from women!!

I can see, I'll have to rush to get that photo posted now!

    Take care,
    Ham.
(PS: this kilt will find a place in the "Hamish Kilts Kollection" - alongside the Celtic football supporter's kilt - as being representative of the diverse variety of kilts available in the early 2000's)

Ah! Thanks for the explanation Bubba. If they are jeans then they really ARE horrendous. There is absolutely NO WAY I could ever wear a pair of jeans, no matter how short!

Don't worry Hamish, I had to look the expression up to know what the heck they are talking of.

It appears to refer to a rather skimpy pair of shorts worn by the lassies to whom modesty seems to be a foreign concept.

These Americans have some interesting vernacular!

The phrase "Daisy Dukes" from a television show in the 80's, "The Dukes of Hazard". There was a character named Daisy Duke, who wore the short little shorts (though her butt cheeks were covered.)

Then, the shorts kind of resurfaced in the mid 90s, and the phrase got popularized by a rap song about "Daisy Dukes." "Look at that girl with the Daisy Dukes on..."

So, that's where we get that little phrase from.

Daisey Dukes are named after a character played by Catherine Bach in a TV series "Dukes of Hazzard". She wore them most of the time in the show.
