Colin,
"Here's a pic of the Duke of Rothesay in more heat appropriate clothing"
I suppose it depends on what you mean by "heat". Since that is a scene on the River Dee, my guess is that the temperature is 75F at most.

Thank you for the pictures and suggestions. Nothing better than an example of a Royal, unless it would be that of Matt and your own fine taste!

I just meant that his clothing would be appropriate for warmer weather, not necessarily that it was actually "hot" where he was. If it had really been THAT hot in the picture, I certainly hope His Royal Highness would have put on a hat with a decent brim!

I cannot recall ever seeing HRH kilted with headgear unless as Colonel in Chief of some regiment.

This is a great thread!
I've been struggling with much the same but at the lower? end of the scale. I guess you'd could label it "grunge" or extreme casual. T-shirt, black boots, scrunched up socks, plain black leather sporran and belt, black leather jacket. Nothing punkish, but I'm 50 and it tends toward looking odd - like I'm trying too hard to look half my age.
For casual jean days at the office, I've started wearing casual oxford shirts or polos, cotton socks, and plain leather casual shoes. T-shirts are allowed, but they make me feel like I'm headed to the bar (not that there's anything wrong with that). I like the sweater idea, but wouldn't be able to wear one very often. They tend to live up to their name with me. ;-)
I started sewing a self-backed waistcoat/vest to go over an oxford shirt for something a touch less casual. I'd just buy one but they are impossible to find locally and I don't want to buy online just to turn around and return it because it doesn't fit right.
The only way up from here that I can think of is to add a jacket but that's too dressy for my needs.
Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.

If he ever goes to pay a kilted visit to hike with Riverkilt in the desert, I bet he might

Riverkilt and O'Searcaigh, here's a pic of the Duke of Rothesay in more heat appropriate clothing:
The Gift Shop of the Scottish Tartan's Museum now offers tropical weight jackets, as modelled by Matt Newsome;
Here's one of me from a couple summer's ago:

Yeah, I was just tired of the colours. I'm pleased that they all found a new home where they will be worn and appreciated. I wanted jackets with more pattern, but mainly in different colours - more earthy browns, greenish-browns, and of course grey based tweeds (not charcoal) to tone well with the Macpherson hunting tartans (though brown does make a smart contrast with that particular tartan).
Colin, I love your summer look! Very casual and comfortable, yet you look like you could go anywhere and would be better dressed than others around you. ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Of course, some of the Highland day attire shown above has more "bells and whistles" than others, yet I think each person represented has a unique style and approach all their own. However, you can begin to detect a common theme throughout the series of photos; i.e. - tweeds, Regimental striped/crested ties, traditional kilts, colour contrasts, the use of patterns in either subtle or bold ways, not really worrying too much about matching everything to a tee, etc.
Cheers,
