Well it was great to meet Rocky and see the huge expanse of tartan he has (as well as multiple other items that would keep any kilt wearer happy). It was also a great day to ride to his place.
Sadly Rocky didn't have a PV tartan off the peg that I wanted (at least, not in my size) though he did show me the Murray Ancient he has in the back room so you can be certain I will be having one of those made. Luckily, he had a 13oz wool in Scottish National that fit me and required no alteration. I couldn't tell you if it is a 5 yard or an 8 yard though it seems weighty indeed. Perhaps Rocky can chime in?
I also picked up a simple black day sporran and some hose. I have a busy day ahead of me so may not get a chance to get pictures today but if I can I will wear the kilt to my sons rugby practice and grab a picture afterwards.
Shopping at USA Kilts store was an experience I would recommend to anyone who is within driving/riding distance; just expect to leave happy and with a lighter wallet

I will be visiting Rocky on Friday to pick up a PC vest and jacket. I have never been able to walk out of their empty handed, despite my best intentions. Oh ,the dangers of only living an hours from USA Kilts!
I am taking a kilt newbie friend of mine who is hoping to get his first "real" kilt. He is going through a cancer scare so he is getting a kilt to either celebrate good news or to cushion the blow of bad news.

He'll have a great time and I'll keep my fingers crossed on the cancer side of things. I just entered my 6th year after testicular cancer cost me one of my boys and staying positive helps a lot.
Best thing is, Rocky doesn't even have to eek your money out of your wallet, it simply seems attracted to him and parts from you of its own free will ;)

Moggi: Thanks for the trip report. Color me envious. I love the Scottish National tartan. I have to fight temptation over it all the time.
Can't wait to see your pics, especially if they are taken at the rugby pitch. And, glad you had a great trip and a good time. Maybe one of these days I'll get to visit USA Kilts and the Scottish Tartans Museum. That would be a hoot.

It was a 13 oz, 8 yard kilt. Glad you had a good experience. If you need anything else, we're happy to help.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to get a photo, ended up my wife covered the rugby practice. I'll get one up soon enough.
Rocky, thanks for the extra info. Another kilt order following shortly ;)

So today I ordered a second kilt from Rocky; this one a PV casual Murray tartan. I got some flashes to match the Scottish National too.
This weekend I shall be wearing the kilt (my SN one) when I crew for the Avon Walk for Cancer in DC. If you are down that way just look out for me and say hello!
Expect some photo's to follow from the event.
