2 Charcoals
After 10 weeks minus 1 day I get the much wanted call that my kilts are done. Of course I had to wait until the next day.
The first 1 I wanted to try on was the tweed.

She is 13 oz., charcoal tweed, 9 yd, 3 in. knife pleat with slash pockets.
Theres not much that can been said. She has such a classic look.

showing inside pleats & inside strap
The second is poly/cotton.

She is 13 oz, charcoal poly/cotton twill, 4.5 yd., box pleat with slash & detachable side pockets.
The goal with the p/c was to have a kilt to wear at Scout Camp, then take off the pockets for a less casual look.
I think it does that in spades.
Glad to know that my Utilikilt will now spend more time hanging.
The slash pockets are so big & deep that I can load my pockets with no visual bulge.
With these kilts I went with internal straps. I like them much better than pushing a strap through the hole.
They are both great kilts. Freedom is great to deal with, either on phone, e mail or in person.

Sanx too much Steve, Jackson & Justin

I like both those kilts. And you look good wearing them. It's kind of hard to tell from pictures, but I think I like the tweed the best - nice looking pleats. 9 yds. ?! They must be deep pleats.
If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose tweed and poly/cotton instead of tartan? Is the difference between tweed and tartan simply the weave - weft, wight, warp, twill, and all that? I don't know anything about weaving except that it involves lot of thread and complicated machinery.
That's some beautiful country in the background of those last two shots. Were those taken in the Cowichan Valley?
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Sanx for the kind comment. Heres a picture showing the depth of the pleats. I think theyre 3 inch.
Why? Grey goes with every color. I wanted 2 because I could. I wanted another tweed & I wanted a poly/cotton for Summer Camp (with pocket), out & about more dressy (without pocket), BIG REASON so the Utilikilt could spend more time hanging. Tartan doesnt go with too many of my hawaiian shirts. I may not give you the correct answer about the difference between tweed & tartan. I believe tartan uses worsted wool where is is all the same thickness & color, while tweed may be uneven on thickness & color.
The first pic was taken at Kerry Park(literally around the corner from my place), the second was taken on Shawnigan Lake. I love this area. Why I picked it.

sanx Nile.
I quite like my tweed. They do have a clean, finished look. One day I hope to have an Argyll jacket & waistcoat to match

Don't get me wrong. I like the charcoal color of your kilts. I was asking why you chose the material, and you answered that. Thanks.
I once wore a Hawaiian shirt with one of my kilts to a church dinner. You couldn't accuse me of being "matchy-matchy" that night. It was more like "clashy-clashy". The Hula dancers loved it. They asked me to dance with them.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Very nice kilts. I particularly like the tweed kilt.
