What do kilts normally re-sale for? Let's say that the kilt is made out of PV, only worn once or twice, was made by a reputable maker from this forum, and has matching flashes. I'm just looking to get an idea of how kilts keep their value and what a reasonable re-sale price is from retail. Any suggestions are, as always, appreciated.
It depends purely on market forces and need on the day. Fabric, size, tartan are all important and variable. Original cost means nothing. One kiltmaker charges 300 for their kilt. Another (because they have a 'Name' and a royal warrant) charge 600. As a rule of thumb, I would say 50% to 75% max. But there are kilts in the For Sale section that do not sell. Nobody likes the tartan, nobody is that size, nobody likes the fabric. A hungry man will pay more for a slice of bread than a baker. Regards Chas
Agree with Chas. What I tell customers who ask me that question in the shop is that, depending on condition, you can generally get about 50% of the retail for a kilt. As Chas said, it does matter the tartan, size, material, etc. It boils down to what fish are swimming when you cast the line.
