Basically, trews are high waisted, fish-tailed in the back, closer fitted to the leg, only have the inside leg seam and no pockets.
If they're low waisted, loose fitting, have pockets and two seams on each leg, they're trousers.
I did say BASICALLY.

If you are a gentleman of substance you can count on finding trousers to fit you a lot easier than trews. As much as I would love to have a pair of trews, it wouldn't look pretty.

Imo what are worn today are largely trousers...trews were skin tight similar to medieval hose, as all the old post-medieval paintings show...
