Poll: How do you do "black tie"?
There is more than one acceptable way to approach the "Black Tie" equivalent. Some of you go with the classic Prince Charlie Coatee, others opt to jazz up their black barrathea argyll with a more appropriate waistcoat and have a jacket that does double duty. Still others choose to dress in a formal doublet such as a montrose, balmoral, kenmore, or sherrifmuir for black tie even though these would also serve nicely for white tie. Assuming we all know what the options are, I want to know how the rabble breaks down on this. What's your first kilted choice for black tie? Bonus question: Feel free to comment on your choice of hose when you do it.

Having just gone to a function this past weekend, this is how I attended
Regulation doublet with standard waistcoat, marcella fronted formal shirt with turn down collar, studs and matching cufflinks, nosegay on the left lapel, head on muskrat sporran( alternate that with a goat hair sporran), red and black diced hose, black sgian dubh with sterling silver accents and buckled patent leather slip on shoes (thin leather sole)
Sometimes I wear flashes with the diced hose, as on this occasion, sometimes I don't.

I have a lot of jackets. Three of them are PCs - a black, a blue and a green. As the Prince Charlie is only a black tie jacket it would be foolish not to wear it. I save my Sherrifmuir for white tie and my black Argyle for smart events that aren't in the evening.

Like Downunder Kilt, I chose "formal doublet", though a regulation doublet is really somewhere between that and a Prince Charlie:

I have never attended or been invited to a 'Black Tie' event. I voted for Black Argyll because of past experience I would not get enough use from something more formal.

Actually, I voted "doublet" because it's the closest to the Sheriffmuir I have on order, but in Saxon dress I just wear a black suit with my clerical collar because clerical dress is considered to be universally correct, at least here in Canada.

I would wear my green PC. After trying it with solid colored hose, and not liking the look, I have gone back to wearing only WHITE hose with the PC. I would consider green/blue argyle or diced hose but I don't own either of these.

I voted "Black Barathea Argyll" because that's what I currently wear for black tie, along with a bias-cut tartan waistcoat and diced hose.
I'm hoping that a long-running plan will come to fruition this autumn and I'll be the proud owner of a new velvet doublet (most likely a Sheriffmuir, with which I will also wear my tartan waistcoat).

Black Barathea Argyll, waistcoat, pleated white shirt, black or red bow tie. Usually green, red or black solid hose, flashes that match a color in the kilt. Black leather sporran strap, no belt. Silver cantle, fur front hunting sporran.
Oh, and one absolute necessity to be a well turned out for the evening kilted gentleman - a beautiful lady!
This photo is from the Marine Corps Ball from a couple of years ago, before I had my current fur hunting sporran.

I voted "I like to switch it up" because although I have mostly worn my PC to black tie events, I will likely wear one of my doublets the next time. I prefer my black velvet doublet and am looking forward to the change. I wear it with diced hose, red flashes and bucked shoes.
