My wife is going to make me my first homemade kilt with gray material

What is the best measurment for the pleats?
I saw where one person was making a cargo kilt and was using a 2 inch pleat. Is this a standard?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is she using for guidance? There are instructions for an easy X-Kilt available free for download elsewhere on the forum (I'll search and post a link if nobody beats me to it).

Pleat measurement is also a function of your waist/hip size and the amount of material you have/want to use. More info will help us narrow it down for you (so to speak).

The width of the reveal of your pleats will depend on what 'look' you are going for.

The wider the pleats the more rugged the kilt will look.
The narrower the pleats the more refined the kilt will look.

If you are going to wear your kilt mowing the lawn or hiking the bush you will probably wider pleats. I use 1.5 inch wide pleats in my Cargo Model kilts.
A traditional kilt will have pleats somewhere around 5/8" to 1 1/8" wide. This gives what most people are used to seeing on a traditional, Tartan kilt.

If you are making a kilt from a solid color fabric the width of the pleats is not as important as the depth. A Polyester/Cotton blend fabric is a bit stiffer than kilt wool and will need deeper pleats.
How deep to make your pleats you ask? Well, again, it depends on the style and look you are after and how much swish you want your kilt to have.
