Sporran chain advice needed

Unfortunately having a generous girth and no a*se to speak of the belt loops perform a useful function for me. simply tightening the sporran belt just ends up in a bunched up kilt which is not a good look. Havent tried sporran hangers as I am not too keen on the look so I just make what I've got work for me.

This is a problem a lot of men have. (NATSO (no a*se to speak of)). Me too Simon, but I don't yet have the generous girth so it's less of a problem for me.

I don't like the look of sporran hangers, either.

With the exception of one hemp RKilt, I don't have any belt loops, so nothing to loop a sporran belt through.

Some folks have said that they find it an advantage, particularly gentlemen of substance, and some with too little substance. Intuitively, that seems correct.

I do, however, wear sporran straps on occasion. I find them a real advantage, particularly when driving or sitting for long periods. I wear a chain belt rarely and only with formal wear. Otherwise, I wear a leather sporran belt to avoid kilt damage - it's worked so far.

Thank you all, again. Thanks to you Matt for that information, love the historical perspective. I am also part of the NATSO and some girth. To DownUnder, I am searching for a good belt today and will eventually do away with the chain.

Again, be careful of chains with sharp edges, square corners or open unwelded/ unfinished links as they can quickly abrade the wool. I went out and bought a heavy 20" sterling silver chain, the type you'd wear around your neck, and had eyelets silver soldered on the end. The eyelets were large enough to thread a strap through, a neck chain was used because the links are all smooth and polished to prevent the chain saw effect on one's neck. All in all it cost less than $150. and you have your choice of chain styles, significantly cheaper and better quality than some being sold by many Scottish shops. I went one step further and I'm having a couple of straps made in different leather, stingray to match sporran etc, makes it very versatile.

I actually had mine custom made by the guy who repairs my shoes, it cost a little more than the Scotweb ones, but it has clips to attach the sporran (like you would find on a dog leash) so I find it more convenient to get it on and off.
