I'd ask the original seller to give you the 14mm buttons then get a local tailor to fit them.

Just get some buttons that you like and put them on yourself. It's not that hard.

Now, putting a buttonhole in a finished jacket is scary. Doing it by hand takes time and knowledge. Doing it on a machine is faster, but still scary. I would be inclined, unless I was very handy with either hand-sewing or the buttonholer on a sewing machine, to take the jacket to a tailor and have them make the buttonhole. It will take the person about 5 minutes, total, to do it. Then you can sew the button on, yourself.

I assume that there are no buttons on the jacket cuffs as well? I could understand how these could be left off. I **suppose** I can wrap my mind around forgetting to put the button hole on the jacket. But to put buttonholes on the vest and then forget the buttons?????? That's just plain kookaburra.

Alan, buttons on sleeves and pockets all present and correct, good to know that creating a buttonhole is not a major job. Can't understand how the basics got missed.

Hi Steve yes I reckon 14mm as well, I measured the buttons on the waistcoat I showed you the other day. All in all its very nice , but would I buy from them again? It's a no!

I must admit I was gutted after waiting so long and angry that they could make such a mistake. Whatever they come back with I will get it finished locally. Do I need 19mm or 14mm buttons or the waistcoat ?

I would go with 14mm. The 19mm will be too large and are better for the front closure of a jacket.

No worries, Simon. I know from experience since I have replaced many of my faux stag horn buttons with the genuine article from Loch Sunart, Argyll. They offer stag horn buttons in 15mm, 19mm and 25mm sizes. The 15mm is ideal for jacket cuffs, epaulettes, pocket flaps and waistcoat buttons. The larger 19mm is ideal for the jacket closure. I ordered the 25mm by mistake one time and they were entirely too big! They are far better suited for buttons on a tweed Inverness cape or something similar.

Hopefully they'll at least ship you the buttons at their cost. For the waistcoat, It's either a simple bit of sewing or the even simpler matter of installing the holding rings on the shaft of each button.

Having a buttonhole made for the jacket would certainly be more costly. Source local quotes for that. Many tailors don't even have the machine to do a good job.

If you're happy with the jacket and waistcoat and given your experience with these folks, getting the buttons from the dealer and doing it yourself or using a local tailor seems the only way to go. You should expect this at no cost to you and should be comped in some way for your time/expense at correcting their errors.

Just to drive the point home, I'd include a photo or two of what was delivered when you contact them. Sure, you could fake missing buttons, but a missing buttonhole? Good luck.
