Yes as a fellow GOS I would concur that the sporran is about the right height but the kilt does need to be hitched up an inch or two. The bounce could be due to the fact that we have very mobile stomachs, its just something that is unavoidable, if its the drumming effect of the tassles you could always remove them.

I'm new to wearing kilts and to the site. Not sure if i'm wearing my sporran in the correct place. I never wear a belt so can't use that as a guide. I've set the belt so that the sporran rests over my "area" (if you get my drift). it doesn't bounce when i wear it, so much as swing side to side. only thing i'm worried about is that the swing will break the chain. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated

Can't quite see where your waistband is t challa, but I would suspect from where you say it rests that it would be more comfortable if you tightened the chainstrap by one or two notches. The sporran should rest over your bits when you sit down but be higher when standing and not get in the way of your thighs when walking. You certainly suit your kilt however.

hey kiltfitz. thanks for that. i'll have to put a couple extra holes in the chainstrap as it's currently on the last one! but that's easy enough to do.
and thanks for the compliment too. have just ordered my second kilt (a week after i bought that one) and have my eye on two more (but they'll have to wait till i get paid next month)

Definitely shouldn't be banging in to your gentlemens " excuse me " . Ahem.. The top of the sporran should be about 7 to 9 inches below the top of the waistband of the kilt depending in how much rise your kilt has . Try raising it until it feels more comfortable.

Better too high than too low in any case. I think many new to the sporran think that there is just one -----often too low -----position. In fact it depends on what one is doing------- a walk in the hills then shorten and perhaps in a gentle social environment lengthen a tad. It takes perhaps thirty seconds to adjust, to lengthen or shorten, the sporran strap/chain and is standared practice to make life more comfortable. OK, I can hear it now " but when the sporran strap/chain is threaded through the belt loops its more difficult to adjust quickly". I should imagine it is just so, thats why many of us do not have belt loops.
A question? How many times do you adjust the sporran strap during a long days kilting? OK it depends, but doing what I might do in a day, I could well lengthen or shorten my sporran strap two or three times in a day and think nothing of it.
Actually until I joined this website, I had no idea that some kilts were made with belt loops and cannot imagine bothering with them as they do seem, to me at least, to make life more complicated when quick "on the move" adjustments are required.

You and I seem to be around the same size - I recently switched to a leather sporran strap and it really does help with the bouncing. The flat of the strap stabilizes the sporran where the chain acts as a pivot. You might try to wear it a bit looser too, when it's tight around the belly the sporran seems to bounce up and down - but with a little more strap it should swing a bit, but not bounce. It seems to work best if I wear it just loose enough that it doesn't fall down when I walk.

Thanks! If I may ask, where did you get your sporran strap? I've looked at few sites and most don't have ones for my size. Do you buy them according to waist size? Or bigger than your kilt waist measurement?

MizzouScotsman , a vendor that I have purchased sporran straps from does offer larger sizes .
They are offered in black or brown . Here are the links , hope this helps .

I am a medium build , however , I have noticed the leather sporran straps do help on the bouncing , no matter one's size .
