I really like this belt from USA Kilts, too. http://www.usakilts.com/catalog/prod...01/image/1267/

    Unclevenus:

Given that the tartan in your Pollock kilt is virtually identical to the tartan in my Maxwell hunting, perhaps a couple of photos will help.

I often wear a lovat green jacket and/or waistcoat with my Maxwell hunting, and prefer to wear the House of Cheviot ancient green Lewis hose rather than bottle green hose, which tend to look a bit blue-ish against the green of the tartan. Here I am pictured with the ever dapper Tobus on a windy day wearing the above with a brown sporran and brogues:

When I wear a short-sleeved shirt, I tend to favor a Cabela's tan safari shirt with this particular tartan, as it's not too light a shade, and not too dark:

I like the belt, but think a darker brown might work better with the tartan (I prefer chocolate brown). Of course black always works. I wear chocolate brown or black depending upon my choice of sporrans.

I'm not really a fan of red hose, and while they or the black or gray would work, I'd go with something green with red flashes. But then, that's only my opinion... I could be wrong.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    SM

Have you thought about something completely different that contrasts rather than matches?

How about a muted blue or a Navy blue?

The grey is my choice above and a muted blue is not a giant leap from grey.

    Nice tartan, btw.

I like the look of brown hose with red or green based tartans (think autumnal). If you look at the photo of Shawn and Tobus, perhaps you could imagine Tobus' hose worn with Shawn's kilt? I think it is a great way to slightly cool down the heat of the red/orange. If you are wedded to a hose in a color that is in the kilt, I would go with a softer green, lovat or sage, instead of tartan green.

    Best of luck!

As always, Shawn has been roughly 99% spot on with my barrage of questions to him since I have met him on this site. Big thanks, sir! I'm leaning to the tan safari shirt. I already have a gray one for my black dress kilt. I think my orange hose is somewhat loud with the kilt. I've also debated the House of Cheviot Bison (Glenmore) in addition to the green. Thanks again, all!

If it were me I'd go with lovat blue first choice or a softer color solid hose(ancient green, blue, oatmeal)second choice would be navy, charcoal or a brighter blue. As for a jacket/vest the sky's the limit.

Good move. I tend to avoid brighter colors in the hose (red, orange, etc) if the kilt has a lot of that same color. It tends to be too much of a good thing. I think those bright color hose look best when the kilt only contains a small amount of that color. Then you see some contrast, while still being complementary to the kilt.

In your case, the charcoal and grey both look fine, and I definitely think lighter green hose would look good, as well. The bison color Glenmore would look great for daytime casual wear.
