If this will be the "proper" kilt, why not go for the 8 yard, knife pleated to the sett kilt. If you want to experiment with options on pleating to the stripe, take Ken's suggestion and have your kiltmaker pin up different options for you. You won't regret having at least one "tank" in your kilt wardrobe.
