You could also look here. They make great quality for a reasonable price and you can order changes in design if desired...

Morrisons and the aforementioned McRosties look lovely, though I'll have to leave those to Santa's discretion...

I emailed Robert at Rkilts to see if he could make a plainer festival sporran with no button and he said yes. I also got a PM from ShaunMaxwell about a source for a black MoD style sporran, but the seller is a bit untested... I emailed him and he said the leather is genuine, if a bit stiff. The last one is the Bauhaus boy military style, which is supposed to be decent quality, despite the seam stitching on the flap.

Now that I've got things narrowed down to these 3 options, which one would you choose for me? Keep in mind that I'm looking for the best value to suit my little, wee grad student budget. I'd like to be able to wear this sporran with anything from very casual or informal, all the way up to smart daywear.

    $35, highlandthistle (new seller):

    $50, Bauhaus Boy:

$75, Rkilts (with button edited out):

I would suggest the RKilt sporran, if for no other reason than the leather looks to be of much better quality. Doesn't look like an economy accessory. Shopping locally doesn't hurt either.

I can vouch for the quality on Robert's sporran. Im sure youll be able to pass it on. Only you can decide if the extra cost is with it to you. Many people (me included) start with lower cost items & add better quality items as money allows. Good luck.

I agree with the comments on the quality of Robert's work, plus he is a forum merchant and when I can I try to provide them business even if they are not the cheapest and you'll be helping your local economy.

One other consideration is post sales support. While something happening to a sporran may be remote, I can attest first hand that Robert delivered great service when I needed a repair.

I think I like the bauhaus boy the best Colin. The R sporran is a bit too soft for my liking, and the Highlandthistle a bit too plain (cheap) looking. I buy items from lots of vendors, some are forum members others are not, I tend not to let that sole issue sway me away from something I like, or can better afford.

Best of luck, regardless of your choice!

Given the three choices I'd go with the R Kilts model. Why? Well Robert does good work so you will get real quality for your money, the sporran won't look like something mass produced, he is an XMTS sponsor, and a nice fellow to boot.

    Cheers

There are some very compelling reasons being given for the quality and customer service of the Rkilts festival sporran, but I just asked my ladyfriend and she agrees with MacMillan's Son about the softness. I read a review of it, which says that the back is reinforced with some sort of stiffener, but the front and flap are very supple... perhaps supple unto being a mite floppy? She likes the Bauhaus Boy one over the other one because of its ultimate simplicity; the other one has a visible stud closure that takes away from the cleanliness of the look.

I haven't made up my mind yet, so I'm still welcoming suggestions. There's time because it's going to take me a bit to liquidate enough assets to be able to afford the purchase anyway...
