There are, however, places in deepest Scotland, Ireland and probably even in Liverpool where it would be wiser not to combine the two, unfortunately.

And even here in California!

Because a couple times people have taken umbrage here, in Sunny Southern California, for my wearing a Black Watch kilt on St Patrick's Day. (Nowadays I wear Isle of Skye and all is well.)

Though from a purely fashion point of view the two (green and white hoops, and BW kilt) look fine together, historically/culturally it's a strange (and potentially offensive) juxtaposition.

A plain green kilt might look best both from a fashion standpoint and a cultural standpoint.

I've long thought that the green & white MacDonald tartan makes for an ideal Celtic FC tartan (better than the tartans designed as such!)

Hmm. I've never really liked the current fashion of sports kit as general wear but each to his own. What you wear is up to you and what you are comfortable with. I get the Black Watch kilt, is the Celtic shirt for some special occasion or general use?

The only downside I can see is that in some parts of the world, sports shirts and kilts are associated with the "Tartan Army", elements of which aren't universally accepted. You'll be fine as long as you don't run into a MacDonald who supports Rangers and originates from Glen Coe. I doubt they would be very common in Kentucky, which I associate more with Bluegrass and Bourbon - second only to Usquebaugh!

Hmmm.....almost sounds like the situation in the US where certain pro sports teams' logo wear have become gang symbols.

Yes, several kilt wearers in town. More in Lexington. We used to have a very nice Burns dinner and annual summer outing.
