I do know Altarnun. It's a gem of a church with a nearly complete set of carved bench ends and a contemporary screen. And a Norman font, if I remember. I'm sure you're right about the long jacket being mistaken for a kilt by those.

Thanks for those photos! How wonderful that church is. (And I can see what hymns they sung that day.)

I'm sorry that my wife and I, when we were driving around Cornwall, didn't go visit that church.

BTW when in Tywardreath and surrounding area I asked three locals how to pronounce the town name, and got three different answers! Sometimes two syllables, sometimes three.

Same thing happens around here... I used to live in a town here named Cucamonga and I and many others pronounce it "kookuh-monga" but many (even people who live there) call it "kookuh-munga".

Not too far from were my great grandmothers family came from. Her father Thomas Kelly married Mary Van Stone on Sept 08, 1859 in Meheniot which is not too far north of Tywardreath.

Yes, but we're having a nice chat about Cornwall. I was going to post my photo of the exterior of Altarnun.

But I new thread wouldn't be about kilts. Perhaps I should wait until I have my Cornish Hunting kilt, next week if all goes according to plan, and sneak in some churches and stone circles on the back of it.

I like your idea for the Cornish tartan. Very handsome indeed. Weave me a few yards while your at it!

    JohnathanB,

I was simply trying to point out that the OP of this thread is no longer participating in it. Any further replies to the OP and the topic he specified were probably being wasted.

There is no need to sneak discussion about Cornish churches into the back of another thread.
We have provided the Miscellaneous Forum Section for our members to discuss those topic not specifically about kilts.

If I may quote from that section.

"This is where our members can discuss those things in their lives not necessarily related to the Kilt. (Please keep in mind when posting here that we are a community of friends. The idea is to discuss those things which bring us together, not those that separate or divide us.)

And further may I quote from our published Rule #12

    "- Off Topic Threads & Posts -
    a) The topic of discussion on X Marks is the kilt. Threads or posts not related to the kilt are restricted to either the Events or Community Forums.
    b) Posts to existing threads must keep to the topic set by the Original Poster (OP). Posts which take a thread off the original topic may be removed.
