Joan is fine, though not as post-op pain-free as we would wish but that's what percocet and oxycontin are for! She'll be in the hospital for another couple of days, thene have a rough week ahead of us when she first comes home. However, after that, it's all gonna get better. I have no doubt that she'll be dancing and hiking again in less than two months.

And I got a kilt cut out and 16 pleats sewed in the waiting room.

If it was the anterior entry/"minimally invasive" procedure that sounds about right. At 2 months after mine I was doing 2 & 1/2 mile hikes in the Los Altos hills and doing koshi nage (hip throws) on my students in the dojo. (There are trail-record pics and video to prove both.)

Glad to read that things are going fairly well for Joan. It will be a tricky time for you both for a while, but I have no doubts that you both will be out and about before long. Scotland next year?

Joan is recovering well. This is her second hip replacement and she's at least 10 days ahead, recovery-wise, from where she was last time. I'm back at work today, a day early...that's how well she's doing. On Sunday we walked down to the end of the block, turned the corner and walked to the next corner, and then back again. All told, that was about 250 yards. Yes, she used her walker, but she did it, and then later that afternoon she had her first visitors come by the house for two hours. She was a tired girl on Sunday night, but she did it. She's now motoring around the house with the walker with no issues whatsoever, and I fully expect that she will ditch the walker for a cane by the end of the week. The first home visit by the Physical Therapist was yesterday and she says that Joan is doing great. Next weekend, her girlfriend Carol is coming by and they are going out for a stroll down by the Port to see a heron and egret nesting rookery. She's doing so well that I suspect that I will be able to attend the Monterey Highland Games on Sunday, after all.

The only downside to all this, is that she keeps me extremely busy when I'm at home, so I haven't gotten any of the machine-sewing done on Pastor Gregs kilt, that I'd hoped to do. I've hand-sewn all of the pleats, now except the three right where the join is. Once the join is machine-stitched, I'll finish the pleats and then we're well on our way to Pastor Greg having a nifty kilt.

It's almost time to go down to Orchard Supply and get one of those nice leather workbelts to stain black to go with the kilt. I think I'm going to give him my first semi-dress sporran that I never wear any more, so he'll be completely set, once this is done.

The kilt is a 4-yard, 11 ounce wool job, in Black Watch. The sett is 4 1/2 inches. It's awfully light, but then he's never going to be attending any events where the Kilt Police will give him grief, so this is fine. It has 19 pleats, pleated to stripe. I'm snooping ebay for an appropriate budget celtic cross kilt pin.
