    Don't be too quick to rule out Edinburgh. It is a lovely city with lots to offer in terms of culture, history, architecture, art, etc. Even if there are some tourist traps on the Royal Mile, nobody is forcing you to go into the shops and there is a lot besides that is worth seeing between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
