I was able to have a kilted Friday again! My new job is not quite ready for a kilt, but since I am working from home today, I went kilted...and going out for errands I got a cashier who needed help, the second cashier came over and looked at me and said in her Russian accent "ooh a kilt, looks cute" and smiled. At another store the woman helping me didn't say anything until I after I paid, then as she put my small purchase in a paper bag, she said "works, but not as good as a sporran".

Overall, a pleasant kilted solstice Friday.

Here comes the sun! Summer has begun. Today, I wore my USA Kilt semi-trad in American Heritage tartan. Artificer sporran & belts. Cotton kilt hose from Sock Dreams.

This Friday is a very casual day (kicking off a holiday week here at the beach) - so I donned my US Army tartan SportKilt first thing - topped with an "Altoona Curve" Minor League Baseball t-shirt - for a casual American-as-apple-pie look.

This is the attire of the day - until I head out for a bike ride.

Off to the Home brew store. Navy blue polo, Holyrood semi-traditional, lovat blue hose, gold flashes brown leather belt and sporran. Sorry no one home to take a pic. I'm going to brew up our favorite summertime brew. A Orange Vanilla cream ale, think orange creamsicle beer.

At work today wearing my box-pleated maple leaf tartan from John at Keltoi. A bit matchy with dark green polo shirt and hose with a sporran from Robert at Rkilts. The maple leaf tartan seamed appropriate given that Canada Day is this weekend and it is, after all, the national tartan.

Seeing that earlier today is probably what inspired me to choose my knife-pleated Maple Leaf 5-yarder from USAK for today.

Treated myself to a movie (White House Down), and as I was in line to get my ticket a man walked up to me with his wife and complimented me on the kilt, asking me what my clan affiliation is (it's Douglas, so I explained about the Maple Leaf tartan) and telling me he's a Fergusson.

After the show I wandered over to Barnes & Noble to find a copy of World War Z -- saw this one the other day and want to read the book it's based on. (The movie is NOT a cinematic version of the book, you can enjoy both without having to think one or the other is "better".) Walking through the mall on the way over, I noticed a very attractive woman walking toward me. Well actually she was with someone, presumably her husband, but she's the one I noticed. As the distance closed she noticed me, and her face lit up. She smiled broadly at me as she moved over closer to him and took his arm. The body language seemed to be saying, "I like what I see, but I'm with him. . .but I sure like what I see!".

Found the book. In the checkout line at Barnes & Noble, I had just reached the head of the line when a young Asian guy (I'd guess 19 or 20) several places back walked up to me and said, "Sir. . .?". I turned to look at him and he said, "Your kilt is EXCELLENT!!!". (I appreciatively thanked him.)

Then a stroll over for a pint and a sandwich at my favorite food & beverage establishment in the mall. Several of the girls there recognize me by sight (I suppose the kilts make that easy) and a couple know me well enough to anticipate my food orders. But today there was this one. . .Lordy. I'm pretty sure I was not gazing at her like a besotted idiot, though I was rather wishing I'd been seated at one of her tables. At one point she was walking along several tables away toward the cash register just as I happened to look up from something I was reading. She caught my eye and flashed me a wink. Made my day, I thought. . .but there was more.

About 5 minutes later she walked over to my table, which surprised me as it wasn't one of "hers". She stood beside me for a moment, her hand dropping down to brush the surface of the table in a way that would look to a casual observer like she was picking something up or putting something down, such as a receipt perhaps, as she smiled and said "I hope you have a really nice day!". I thanked her and wished her the same, and she walked away. A bit odd in my experience with that place, but nice. And I could happily have watched her walk away for hours.

As I was leaving I asked my own server if I could get a photo taken with some of the lasses -- said that I mainly wanted to document what I was wearing, but that having some lovely ladies in the photo certainly wouldn't hurt. My Kilted Friday Adventure ended with a visit to my parental home to see my recently arrived cousins (ladies on the right) from Liverpool. My attire was a big hit with them.
