Kilted Fridays Adventures

At work today wearing my box-pleated maple leaf tartan from John at Keltoi. A bit matchy with dark green polo shirt and hose with a sporran from Robert at Rkilts. The maple leaf tartan seamed appropriate given that Canada Day is this weekend and it is, after all, the national tartan.

Seeing that earlier today is probably what inspired me to choose my knife-pleated Maple Leaf 5-yarder from USAK for today.

Treated myself to a movie (White House Down), and as I was in line to get my ticket a man walked up to me with his wife and complimented me on the kilt, asking me what my clan affiliation is (it's Douglas, so I explained about the Maple Leaf tartan) and telling me he's a Fergusson.

After the show I wandered over to Barnes & Noble to find a copy of World War Z -- saw this one the other day and want to read the book it's based on. (The movie is NOT a cinematic version of the book, you can enjoy both without having to think one or the other is "better".) Walking through the mall on the way over, I noticed a very attractive woman walking toward me. Well actually she was with someone, presumably her husband, but she's the one I noticed.

As the distance closed she noticed me, and her face lit up. She smiled broadly at me as she moved over closer to him and took his arm. The body language seemed to be saying, "I like what I see, but I'm with him. . .but I sure like what I see!".

Found the book. In the checkout line at Barnes & Noble, I had just reached the head of the line when a young Asian guy (I'd guess 19 or 20) several places back walked up to me and said, "Sir. . .?". I turned to look at him and he said, "Your kilt is EXCELLENT!!!". (I appreciatively thanked him.)

Then a stroll over for a pint and a sandwich at my favorite food & beverage establishment in the mall. Several of the girls there recognize me by sight (I suppose the kilts make that easy) and a couple know me well enough to anticipate my food orders. But today there was this one. . .Lordy. I'm pretty sure I was not gazing at her like a besotted idiot, though I was rather wishing I'd been seated at one of her tables. At one point she was walking along several tables away toward the cash register just as I happened to look up from something I was reading. She caught my eye and flashed me a wink. Made my day, I thought. . .but there was more.

About 5 minutes later she walked over to my table, which surprised me as it wasn't one of "hers". She stood beside me for a moment, her hand dropping down to brush the surface of the table in a way that would look to a casual observer like she was picking something up or putting something down, such as a receipt perhaps, as she smiled and said "I hope you have a really nice day!". I thanked her and wished her the same, and she walked away. A bit odd in my experience with that place, but nice. And I could happily have watched her walk away for hours.

As I was leaving I asked my own server if I could get a photo taken with some of the lasses -- said that I mainly wanted to document what I was wearing, but that having some lovely ladies in the photo certainly wouldn't hurt. This is it, below; the one who winked at me is the raven-haired one on my left:

My Kilted Friday Adventure ended with a visit to my parental home to see my recently arrived cousins (ladies on the right) from Liverpool. My attire was a big hit with them.

One of the complements I get from Kilt admirers is "you look really smart today.Whay are you wearing the kilt?"
My rsponse is "I like wearing the kilt bcause it is practical and comfortable.I like to look smart when I am on Holiday.That is why I am wearing the kilt today."

Road the Raleigh to a casual work meeting at a cafe this afternoon whilst kilted. Black Watch, black hose, brogue boots, black tee. A couple of interested looks from the hipsters, no comments pro or con. Being an upright style of bike, it's an easy bike to ride in a kilt.

Might need to work from home more often on Fridays so I can be comfortable and kilted!

I had this Friday off from the day job and did chores around the house that kilt wearing wouldn’t have been practical. On my part time job at the big box store, I filled in for a fellow employee who needed the evening off. I wore my khaki 5.11 Tactical kilt. Received lots of positive comments from customers and employees who don’t see me on Sundays when I wear one.

Not so much a Friday adventure, but it was 95 degrees and humid here yesterday so my 5.11 TDK was just what the doctor (or the weatherman) ordered.

Wow, that's quite an experience! I have to ask: you mentioned you wanted a picture with them...but where are you in this picture??
