My family also came from Scotland through Canada to California.
I too will be kilted and have a dram for Canada.

I will certainly join in raising a wee dram on Canada Day; kilted, of course.

Almost all my relatives are Canadians. My mother's Scots/Irish family all emigrated to Canada. My Scottish father served in Canada with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Ontario and then in Alberta and it was only because he sustained a head injury in 1943 that he was shipped back to Britain to serve in an RAF salvage crew. Otherwise I would have been Canadian born like my cousins. Not going to the big Canada Day party in Trafalgar Square London this year but nevertheless I will suitably celebrate Canada Day tomorrow.

Is it a coincidence that the Dress Act was repealed on July 1st also?
Still sorting out which tartan I will wear. And which pint I will lift in honor of all the great Canadians.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Thank you Nathan for that interesting and informative history lesson.

I definitely agree with the above statement. My wife and I have had the opportunity to spend time in various Canadian towns over the years, mostly along the Great lakes (while sailing) and have nothing but good to say about the canadians we have encountered.
Happy Canada Day!

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Hi, brand new member here (first post!) I am in Canada and just wanted to say that I am immensely proud of the Scottish heritage in Canada. In fact, I ended up over on this site today from having been watching a Youtube video of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada playing the bagpipes and drums through Sicily after it was liberated... From there my fingertips wandered and I ended up on this site. ;) More than anything, I LOVE the highland regiments in Canada!

May I post?
Just wondering if we are allowed to post vids of the Canadian Highland Regiments in here or if there is a specific thread for them? I have a really neat one of them marching through Rome playing the bagpipes and drums in WWII!
