Lost my sporran, belt, and kilt pin :-(

Went on a business trip and took my kilt, handmade sporran, belt, and kilt pin with me. So busy I never had a chance to wear them.

The airline delayed my baggage due to a cancelled flight although I was able to make another connection. It was delivered to me the next day with a couple of zippers open (one broken), my toiletry kit open, and missing my sporran containing my belt and kilt pin. I suspect a poorly executed and generally careless inspection of my bag resulted in the sporran falling out. Although I've put in a missing item report, I doubt I'll ever see it again.

Ah well, I guess I have a reason to start sporran #3 and order a new belt. I'm also going to have to purchase new luggage that meets the carry on limits so I never ever check a bag ever again.

That sucks!! I feel for you. I had a guitar strap go missing from my luggage a couple of years back flying from Minneapolis to LAX. I suspected that it was swiped (it was a pretty good-quality strap).

Hopefully your belongings will be returned.

I feel your pain. As an absent heided youth I lost a lovely tweed kilt jacket and a fine pair of brogues (separate occassions) after wedding receptions by leaving them on the roof of the car and driving away. Neither, ever seen again.

I solved the problem by only ever travelling in convertible cars with the roof down all the time which, living in Scotland, has made for some interesting rides home over the years.

Good luck with the airline. They may yet turn up, but you really need to keep calling them to keep it fresh in their minds for the first week or so.

    Cheers,
    Orionson

I feel your pain....My wife bought me a beautiful antique kilt pin last year. While wearing the pin on my kilt at a recent festival, it fell off somewhere on the grounds. I searched for it and asked around if it was found. Nope, lost or maybe the kilt pin made it into someone's collection.

We had the same ting happen coming back to the States from Europe. I "lost" a pair of gillies, a pair of hose, belt and waist plate and a skean...often thought what the "finders" felt when getting a pair of shoes with holes and a pair of socks that reach the knee!! Anyway, made a claim from the airlines and recieved a check, no questions asked (apparently others finding our things is not unusual)...so make your claim and buy new stuff.

Yikes!! It makes me not want to take anything valuable (kilt-related or otherwise) if I visit the UK next year! It sounds like outright theft!

I dread the TSA. When I go this summer I will travel extra-light with only a carry-on bag for a 12-day trip. I will not trust my valuables to such treatment.

I had considered wearing my kilt on the way home but didn't want that much attention from the TSA. Besides, I don't think they would have liked my sporran chain belt. I'm never checking baggage again. Not worth it.

Yet one more reason I hate flying. If I can drive, that's my preference.
I hope I never need to go to Hawaii. That'd be one damp drive.

Pretty much what I wanted to write.
You can exchange Hawaii with the UK though.
Thank god for the ferries .

I hope that at least you get some cash for your unique handmade sporran.
