Fingertrouble.
Nothing to get wound up about, but for your information, Dunvegan Castle is the home of the MacLeod of MacLeod, Chief of Clan MacLeod and has been the home of the Chiefs of the MacLeods for the best part of a thousand years.

I had a great time wearing my Xmarks kilt on the Royal Mile during the 'Fringe'. Also wore it to the 'Tattoo' and more formally to a wonderful dinner at the Witchery. On each occasion, I had nothing but positive feedback, and a great deal of that. I will do it again on the next trip.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

Last time I visited Scotland only saw one kilt per day. Depends wear you go. I wear my kilt as smart with daywear Argyll jacket to stay safe.
Try checking out Twenty First Century Kilts. They are into Kilt Suits and Boots. Might be your style for Scotland.
My guess is however you dress you may be on your own.
See if you can find a gathering or a band contest or the Local Games in your in your travels.
Perhaps a tartan museum.
Check out the big town and City tourist guides. They will tell you what is going on.
You are getting into the right time of year for the Happenings with the kids coming home from school and Uni, for the summer.Week Ends could be packed with events.
Just Google it out, best of luck Roddy

Yes I would agree with You as I have been a Kilted tourist From England.
I like your Photos, bring back many happy memories. Average Idea of what one is Likely to find on the average trip north of the Border.
Check out the way the kilt is worn.I tend to wear the kilt with attention to detail.Just wear the kilt correctly and hold your ground.
Remember you are trying to be accepted in an unknown ball park of fashion.
I just keep it simple and traditional. You may meet the civy bands or the Highland Regimental Bands. Lots of attention to detail either way.
If you have time , check out a local band before you leave home. Roddy.
I usually travel alone in UK so try to keep up what is an internationally excepted standard.
If you Keep your mouth closed, no one will know where you come from.
I go kilting with the local ex pat caledonians . I try to remain a well spoken gentleman without any accent. I have been accepted locally for years. If you speak plain English the Locals will accept you. Roddy.

Wear your kilt on Mull for sure. I met Sir Lachlan last year when we visited there. Stayed in Tobermory at Hotel with the same name. Yes by all means check out the pub by the distillery. Machuggins or something like that. Try some Cullen Skink, smoked haddock soup. I am Clan MacLaine of Lochbuie your cousin clan. Safe trip. Enjoy.

Ah yes. Wasn't sure exactly which one it was hence the ?, I didn't want to Google it since writing and googling are two different things, and googling upsets the writing flow...

Could not agree more re traveling in a kilt.
Between September and May, you should not have much midge trouble, other times on the West Coast, do some research before you go.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Well, I leave early Sunday morning so doing a few last minute things... like getting some Skin-so-Soft for the midges, though it sounds like I'll be able to get it there if I can't find it here. You've all given some great advice and I've written down some places to drink (and eat)... I'm looking forward to the distilleries in Oban and Mull - 2 of my favorite whiskys!
I've opted for the Weathered MacLean kilt - it's heavier than the others but as the others are "hunting" (green) - and I don't want to blend into the background - I thought some color would be a good thing. I'm packing a plain black sporran, blue hose and boots. I'm not doing flashes or kilt jackets. I'm not going particularly traditional in my style but it's the style I'm most comfortable in. We are hitting the Mull Highland Games so that's a kilt wearing day for sure as will be the trip to Duart Castle. I'll probably wear it more than I think I will.
Thanks again for all the advice!
