Bill,
Those "going out" boots are something else, indeed!

I also have a pair of black "MACK" steel toed work boots I bought at Target for under $30.00. They're much lighter and more comfortable than the New Rock boots, so they tend to be my knock-around-town boots.
They are similar to these: http://www.yatesmenswear.com.au/onli...ndernutec.html
but are waterproof with a non-removable Thinsulate lining. I got them for under $30.00 at Target.
I also have a pair of Freeman C.A.S. low-top brown boots that can double as a "dress casual" business shoe. Also very comfortable and sturdy. I've hiked the desert at Burning Man in them for a week. When I got back I washed the dust off in the bathtub and set them outside to dry. Then I gave them a fresh coat of shoe polish and wore them to work in a business office.
They cost around $65.00 at the Casual Male Big & Tall Men's store: http://www.casualmale.com/ (select "shoes" and look for the Demi-Boot at the bottom of page 2)

I was in Manhattan yesterday and ran across a store with the New Rock boots on 8th St. iin the Village. WOW! In person they're very cool. My wife thought the pair with the flames and the spikes was a bit much for my sense of style and I tend to agree, but we both dug the solid black.
Very nice.

After looking at Grahm's pitures, I bought self a pair of Blundstone boots last weekend. Love them. They look great with the kilt.

I saw this pair of Skechers at a store today when I was checking out Doc Martens. I though they'd make a good kilt shoe.
