When I'm dressed for less formal weddings and the like, I use a waistcoat and tie. I have four ties that I wear depending on the color of the shirt and waistcoat. One is a gold tie with a historical roll of arms replicated on it. it looks good with grey shirts and/ or waist coats. I have a couple of navy blue ties, that go well with almost anything. One is covered in little embroidered thistles and the other with gold rampant lions. (I know, they sound like Scottish souvenir shop fodder. But they were gifts from my life before kilts and look good.) And the last is more on the medium blue side with white heraldic horns on it. It looks best with my brown waistcoat. But if you noticed, I didn't mention trying to match the kilt at all. The truth is that I feel that the kilt looks best when is complemented and not matched direct. I feel the same when picking colors for the hose as well. After re-reading this it seems more off topic than on.

Actually, it's not off-topic at all; it's very relevant. What others choose to wear is all food for thought; I'm actually thinking of trying some different shades of blue for a tie with a white shirt...

To be honest right before I posted it I chopped out a bunch of stuff about ties I wouldn't wear to that type of thing. Which included a bunch of ties that in IMHO look awful with kilts. Those being the kind with the end decorated with a large design or picture. I have several of those that I use when preaching non-kilted, but they look ridiculous with kilts. I also have a Jabot and a white silk cravat that are both way too formal. Before I took that part out, it was a bit more off topic.

I spoke to Hector Russell and a delivery date of 24th July has been agreed - delayed from the original at my request due to other stuff going on.

That gives a couple of months hence to it's first official outing, and plenty of time to add a dress shirt and bow tie to the package for Christmas. Pictures of the full "PC" will have to wait until then, but I should have some casual try-outs to post.

Oh, in a semi-related question: what does the term TANK mean in the context of kilts - have searched and can't find an explanation. Totally Awesome New Kilt is my best guess!

A 'TANK' Is defined as an eight-yard, wool, hand-sewn, traditional kilt. ie., "It's built like a tank." (coined by Jimmy Carbomb c.2005)

Thanks Carlo - couldn't find it for looking. I think I prefer my acronym :-) and this should meet the definition of a TANK in both definitions! Not sure it's 100% hand sewn as it wasn't specified either way, but it's the real article - and expensive enough that I won't be wearing it for sporting activities!
