Ancient green and Heath Loden tweed

Hi Guys,

Quick question:

I am just in the process of ordering that really in-expensive jacket and waistcoat combo that is perpetually advertised on eBay (the one for £189 in Heath Logan from Marton Mills - it is available in several cloths). I can only afford one jacket and waistcoat combo, so I am trying to match it with all my kilts.

Consequently, I am torn between the Heath Logan, and the Loden Antique.

My kilts are in:
Black Watch,
Pride of Scotland,
Weathered Buchanan,
Roxburgh Red Ancient,
Dewar

My question is, has anyone ever matched the Heath Logan to a tartan with Ancient green in it? I have seen it paired to Ancient orange often - and it goes nicely; Heath Logan also pairs well with forest green, darker tartans, the purple - and is almost the same green as that is in the Weathered Buchanan. But I can't find a photo of it paired with Ancient Green anywhere. Anyone help out with a photo?

The alternative is to go with the brown coloured Loden Antique - but I wanted something a little brighter than Dark brown, as I already have brown and black jackets.

I have a beautiful kilt in the Loden Antique Tweed, and it is not brown. You might want to get a swatch to see the real colors. It is very nice and the pics don't reflect the specks in the tweed. I'll leave it to others to navigate how well it would work with the list of kilts you own.

Not directly answering your question, but something worth considering. My budget is also very tight and I have had 2 jackets that came from charity shops converted by VMac (Victoria) on this board. Her work was outstanding as are my jackets. I wanted a blue jacket and had to wait several months before she found the "right" one but it is a wonderful jacket and cost me far less than a new jacket.

Thats handy to know, Seanachi! Thanks. My trouble is, that I want a jacket and a waistcoat - I already have a selection of jackets that will make do. I recently made my own jacket - which was thrifty, for sure, but not really what I was after (also limited by availability)

If you say the Loden Antique is not really brown, and the swatches might not be accurate, what colours would you say that it was? (do you have photos?)

That's a bit of a tough decision . Personally I like both Heath Logan and Loden Antique .

However , considering your kilts , here's my observation . I kind of like contrast between the kilt and the jacket for daywear . Not required , just my personal preference .

Therefore , the following :

Black Watch , Pride of Scotland and Dewar would perhaps look sharp with Heath Logan .

Weathered Buchanan and Roxburgh Ancient perhaps with the Loden Antique .

However , the Heath Logan would also work with the Weathered Buchanan and the Roxburgh Ancient , there would be some contrast just not as much as the Loden Antique .

In the spirit of color contrast , the Heath Logan may be more versatile considering your tartans .

Although , having said all that , if your favorite kilts are the Roxburgh Ancient and the Weathered Buchanan and if these are the kilts you wear the most and you are going to invest in a jacket and waistcoat , then perhaps go with the Loden Antique .

I'm probably not helping , I did say tough decision .

I guess it comes down to which tartans that you think you would wear most often for daywear . As you stated , you already have darker jackets which can be used for more formal settings .

This was actually pretty close to where I had got to. What I actually want to find, is someone that would make the light brown tweed jacket seen here:


as I think this sort of light colour brown would match everything AND contrast everything!

I think you are correct , the Heath Logan color would do that quite well .

I hope you're not entertaining the thought of using the round artificial leather buttons that were popular back in the early 1980's as shown in the above pic !

I'm with Mike on the colour Shedlock, Heath Logon would be my selection out of the two you have to choose from. You say you have two in a darker colour already, so why not spread the colour spectrum and give yourself more optons. As for matching/co-ordinating colours with your kilt, heck I wear brown jackets with my MacLaren and Paterson tartans that are blue green based.
