as was said earlier, there is a difference between Howie Nicholsby (21st Century Kilts) and is father Geoffrey (Tailor) Nicholsby.

It gets confusing, as the "Contemporary" link actually takes you from the father's site to the son's.

As to the jackets, yes they are tailored without a sporran cut-away, but if you look at them closely, you will see that they are still MUCH shorter than a standard tailored Saxon style jacket,
with the bottom hem still falling above the bottom of the sleeve.

I have knife pleats and a Lady Crystel double box. The Double Box is a work of art and beautifully constructed, but the swish is still better in the knife pleat. I do wear the box pleat but not as frequently as a knife pleat Kilt. I suspect if you get one, you'll find the same.

Thank you, one and all for your informed views, advice and opinions.

I have learned much and achieved what I set out to achieve when I laid down the first post of this thread. I have decided to stick with what I am most comfortable with - the 8 yard 32/4 knife pleated kilt. I greatly admire the look of the 4 yard box pleated kilt, but I know in my heart that I would never feel as comfortable as I do with the full 8 yards of tartan. Even in much warmer climes, I have never found it heavy or uncomfortable. I would miss the heft and swing and graceful gravitas of the "tank", as so many of the rabble seem to like to refer to it.

So, thank you again for your gracious and generous input. Mission accomplished.
