Rifle Green?

The Army doublets are of a colour called Archer Green. It is extremely dark and is quite often mistaken for black.

Those sites are calling it Rifle Green, possibly because it was worn by The Cameronians, The Scottish Rifles.

Here it is! Yes those doublets are Archer Green



Archer Green doublets were first introduced by The Cameron Highlanders in the 1840s, for their pipers. By the late 19th century the pipers of all the Highland regiments were wearing them. In 1953 Archer Green coatees were introduced to all ranks of the Highland regiments.

Thanks, Steve, for the suggestion, but not precisely what I have in mind.

Richard, you are precisely correct. I should have referenced Archer Green.

My desire is a jacket "inspired by" but not necessarily military in nature. Traditional, but with a bit of a twist.

I have a very talented seamstress on board for the project, but have to find a source for appropriate material.

Kochan and Phillips imports the cloth from England.... You can check with Najeck but I am pretty sure they are out of stock right now. http://www.najecki.com/repro/Wool.html

Rifle green is a color used in rifle regiments, such as the 95th Regiment of Foot (Rifles), which wore a dark green (altho not as dark as Archer green) starting around 1800. The 95th were featured in C.S. Forester's short novel "Death to the French", know in the USA as "Rifleman Dodd".

As Jeff has pointed out Rifle Green and Archer Green are two different colours. You might try Costello & Sons, military tailors in Ilford (North London) and see if they would be willing to sell you 3 or 4 meters of cloth.
