Socks ???
May I ask a stupid question? Sorry, I am really new to this.
How far below the bottom or center of the knee should the top of socks be? Looks like about 3 to 4 inches below the bottom of knee????

Depends on what kind of socks we are talking about.
Kilt hose-I generally wear right under the knee cap, my calves do a pretty good job of holding em up.
Regular socks-Wherever they end up
I'm no "kilt authority" and I'm sure there are several of them lurking around, but this is how I wear em.

I generally leave about the width of my hand below the center of the kneecap. I guess that would translate to about 3 inches or so.

For me it is more of a anitomy thing I wear mine wear the top of my calf is, basicly at the point on the leg where the calf is on it's way smaller.

I agree with the other lads, but John - remember, there are no stupid questions here, they are all valid and most we have all asked at one time or other!

JohnAllen,
I want to say what all the others have said, and also add that it depends on the type of socks you are wearing and the type of event you are going to like a casual day walking in the park or attending a wedding. Right now I am casual, and my socks are about a hand width above my ankle.

Socks?
Socks?
But what if one wears sandles? Would sandles and a kilt be a fashion disaster? What about a nice comfy pair of Birkenstock clogs?
Shoes are just about as evil as pants. Pinch your toes. Of course, I wear a size 10 4E... I was never meant to wear shoes, much less socks.

Come with me hiking in the Tasmanian Highlands and you'll discover the virtues of shoes - good shoes!

And I would gladly do that... But NOT in shoes.
A good pair of boots maybe.
I have never ever found a pair of shoes that had the kind of arch support I need or the width I require. I can some times find one or the other, but never both in one shoe.

Have you tried New Balance ?
My old wrestling Coach used them and always said they were the only shoes that was wide enough and had good arch support.
