Also of note: I spoke to the guy who appeared to be running the show, although I do not know if he is or not. I told him I had signed up a few days earlier after reading about here on Xmarks. He took down the name of the site and said he would be by with a "Thank You". He also told me the site, in its current state, is very much in beta mode and only a handful of options and functionality are currently available. He said we would be getting notification once all the bells are whistles of the full site were made available. In fact, if I'm not mistaken he was only asking for your email address on a card in order to get your arm band for the weekend. I don't think they were asking anyone to sign up while there.

MyClansOnline.com
There is yet another new Scottish social media website. This one started just this month.
Does anyone here know who owns it? Since COSCA was promoting it I asked them and got a wishy-washy evasive response. "They're good people....."
I did a whois lookup and can only find that the domain is registered to tucows domain service and the IP address is 108.178.25.243.
MyClansOnline is hosted in the United States.
The fact that it is so secretive makes me want to avoid it.
Anyone know anything else about this site?

You're wise to be cautious. I've never heard of it. Let's see what the Great Rabble has to say.

Thanks for moving my post. I had not seen the previous thread.
I am hoping there will be a social media website for Scottish clans, but not one run by a company selling Scottish products. That would create a huge conflict of interest.

I am not going to sign up until I find out who owns the site. If a company trying to sell goods to us, I will not sign up.
There are too many sites now, but not one that is for the clans. There is Xmarks, BrotherhoodOfTheKilt, MyClansOnline, Tartanfootprint??? and Kiltr. Anyone know of more?
There used to be one called Panalba, but that did not last. :-(

In case you don't know, this forum is owned by a company that sells Scottish goods - Freedom Kilts, website at
http://www.freedomkilts.com/index.php
As I understand it the owner (Steve Ashton) also "owns" the XMTS forum.
It's not clear (to me anyway) where you are drawing the line. And why is it inappropriate, prima facie, for a company to also own/run/manage a forum? Please feel free to regard that as a rhetorical question, if you prefer.
Cheers!
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I did not know XMTS was owned by a kilt company. There are many different kilt companies advertising on this site.
