In a thread where I was enquiring of the differences between traditional and historical kilts and attire the conversation ended up taking a much different course than what I figured it would. Through the course of things there came a point where some of the posters began to create new acronyms for different fashions of kilt attire as some of the fashions being referenced didn't seem to fit neatly in any one place. NSTKA was one of those terms coined by Nathan and meaning New School Tartan Kilt Attire. All of the various terms brought up made sense and I think this one in particular seemed in my mind to cover the look I've been going with most recently. In this style I have been using a tartan kilt with a very relaxed leather pouch as a sporran, hose and flashes with loafers (slightly less than clean after a soggy company picnic), a rolled sleeve button-down, and my favorite waist coat. I have grown fond of using my day plaid and my walking stick that has served me well for many years. To add to the casual look I let my hair go free, which is something I rarely do when in modern attire. This is the resulting look, if it doesn't really fit with NSTKA then I think maybe STHCD; meaning Semi-Traditional Highland Civilian Dress. (BTW I know my kilt needs a good ironing.)

I also just noticed than my hose aren't folded evenly.

You wear the look well, and it isn't what I had in mind for MKAT. I think NSTKA works as it is feels a touch historical when you wear the plaid.

It's a good look. Perhaps a wider belt, but otherwise I like it.

Ya' know... if you guys keep inventing new acronymns, no normal human being will ever know what we're talking about.

A wider belt is on my shopping list. And Farther Bill, I wouldn't worry too much about the acronyms. It's like throwing a ball of mud. You use as many as you can, but you know only a few will stick.
